After the ASU DII team came up with a 6-5 OT win over UNLV on Thursday night, the 3rd ranked ASU club hockey DI team came out Friday and clobbered the Runnin’ Rebels by the score of 8-2.

The Sun Devils got out of the gates quickly, by scoring the first two goals of the game. Goals from Kris Myshak and Colin Hekle, who scored on the power play, would give ASU an early 2-0 lead.

UNLV would get the next goal to cut it to 2-1.

The Devils would get two quick goals at the end of the 1st period. Hekle would pick up two goals in a mere 12 second span, giving him a hat trick before the end of the first period. ASU would lead 4-1 after 1.

Pat Rogan would get ASU the first goal 0f the second period, making it 5-1 in favor of the Sun Devils. UNLV would then answer to cut the deficit to 5-2.

It was all ASU the rest of the way as the turned a comfortable win into a blowout. Jon Eades would score for ASU seconds after UNLV’s second goal. Power play goals from Marcus Wilhite and Chris Vassos would seal the deal for the Sun Devils.

Kyle Dietriech got his first start in goal for the Sun Devils this season. Dietriech made 12 saves on the 14 shots he faced.

Coming up next weekend is a trip to Athens, Ohio to face the 6th ranked Ohio Bobcats. The Bobcats eliminated ASU from the national tournament last season. Look for a video blog coming up this week.
