(Tempe, AZ.) FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Division I Sun Devil Hockey Program has officially accepted an invitation to participate in the prestigious “Great Northwest Showcase” hosted by Simon Fraser Men’s Ice Hockey. ASU will face off vs. Simon Fraser University (BCIHL) and The University of British Columbia (CIS) on December 28th and 29th. The Showcase will be held at the state of the art “Bill Copeland Sports Centre” in Burnaby, B.C. The University of Oklahoma will round out the field of four at the Showcase.

“It is going be a great chance for the Burnaby community and hockey market around Vancouver to see some quality hockey. Having the likes of Arizona State and Oklahoma, two very good hockey teams, is tremendous and Simon Fraser Men’s Hockey is very excited.”, said Simon Fraser Head Coach, Mark Coletta.

“We are honored to be a part of this event and give our players the opportunity to experience something outside of the norm that we usually do on road trips within ACHA play. The opportunity to play against two elite programs full of incredible talent like SFU and UBC is an honor and privilege. We are really looking forward to going up to Vancouver and proving we belong on the ice with elite programs like the two we will play. We view this as an incredible opportunity to give our program and the ACHA tremendous exposure and look forward to the challenge.”, said ASU Head Coach, Greg Powers.

In addition to facing off against the two Canadian University’s, The Sun Devils will also face NCAA Division I Penn State on November 30th and December 1st rounding out undoubtedly the toughest schedule in the history of the Ice Hockey Program at ASU. “As long as I am here I will continue to schedule the best opponents we can possibly play. We are all about giving our players the best College Hockey Experience that we can and the BC trip and Penn State games do just that.”, said Powers.

ASU kicks off the regular season vs. Texas A&M on Thursday, September 20th.
