Coach Powers who is a native of Indianapolis, IN. enters his eighth overall season on the Sun Devil Coaching Staff and his fifth as Head Coach of the DI program at ASU. Collegiately, Greg was a 3 Time ACHA Division I All-American Goaltender while playing for the Sun Devils under the tutelage of Hall of Fame Head Coach Gene Hammett. Greg helped ASU qualify for the ACHA Division I National Tournament 3 out of 4 seasons as a player and again as an Assistant Coach in 2000-01 and 2008-2009. In just his second season behind the bench in 2011-12, Coach Powers led the Sun Devils to it’s second consecutive National Tournament birth, a program best 29-4-3 record, and #4 seed at the ACHA Division I National Tournament. In 2012-13, Coach Powers led ASU to a new program best record and first ever 30 plus win season with a record of 35-8-1, its first ever Final Four Appearance, first ever National Ranking of #1, and a benchmark win over NCAA DI Penn State. Coach Powers was inducted into the Sun Devil Player Hall of Fame in 2009 and was also selected by USA Hockey and the ACHA to serve on the selection committee as the Goaltender Coach/Evaluator for the 2010 World University Games Team representing the United States. Since taking the reigns as Head Coach, Greg has also coached six ACHA All-Americans. In addition to being Head Coach, Greg is responsible for the overall management of hockey operations and recruiting. In the 2013-14 Season Coach Powers helped guide the Sun Devils to their 1st ever ACHA Division I National Championship.
Adam Blossey-Assistant Coach
Coach Blossey was born and raised in White Bear Lake, MN. where he played his high school hockey for the White Bear Lake Bears. Coach Blossey then moved on to ASU where he was a standout defenseman for the Devils from 2001-2005 and led ASU to two National Tournaments during his tenure. Adam served as team Captain in 03-04, and 05-06 and was voted Rookie of The Year in 01-02 and Team MVP in 02-03, 03-04, and 04-05. Adam was also a 3 time ACHA All-American selection from 2002-2005. In 2005, Adam was selected by USA Hockey to play on the World University Team for the United States in Innsbruck, Austria. Following graduation where he was also a 2 time ACHA Academic All-American Selection, Adam signed a professional contract to play for the Groningen Grizzlies of the Eerste Division in the Netherlands. In his season with the Grizzlies, Blossey led them to a Division Championship, was voted 1st team Eerste Division, and league Defensive MVP. Adam returned back to Phoenix for the 2006-07 season where he was named Assistant Head Coach for the Sun Devils under then Head Coach, Mike DeAngelis. Blossey was inducted into the Sun Devil Player Hall of Fame in 2009 and will make his return to the bench this season where he will be in charge of defense, and assist with over-all game prep and strategy. In 2013-14, Adam helped lead ASU to its first ever ACHA Division I Championship.
Alex Hicks-Assistant Coach
Coach Hicks will enter his first season on the Sun Devils bench in 2014-15. Alex played his college hockey at NCAA D3 University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, where in 4 years he registered 249 points in 116 games played. After his collegiate career, Coach Hicks enjoyed a 14 year Professional Career highlighted by playing 258 games in the National Hockey League for Anaheim, Pittsburgh, San Jose, and Florida. Alex finished his pro career playing in Germany for his final 6 seasons in the “DEL”, retiring in 2006. He is currently the Assistant Hockey Director at DYHA and has been a positive fixture to the over all landscape of youth hockey in Arizona since the end of his playing days by developing many players who have moved on to higher levels of hockey. Coach Hicks will focus primarily on the development of the Forwards for the Sun Devils and will be a welcomed addition to the staff with hopes of defending ASU’s 2013-14 National Championship.
Scott Jacko-Assistant Coach
Coach Jacko is a dual citizen who was hails from Kimberley, British Columbia. Scott played minor hockey in B.C., and played his Jr. hockey in the KIJHL for the Kimberley Dynamiters. Coach Jacko completed his hockey tenure at ASU; competing in two ACHA National Tournaments for the Sun Devils and was known for his gritty play and leadership both on and off the ice. Coach Jacko has been involved in the game of hockey in numerous facets where has been a referee, coached minor, women’s and high school hockey prior to joining ASU’s staff. After concluding Law School, Coach Jacko spent two years working for Titan Sports Management, a premier NHL sports agency. Coach Jacko moves into his new position after serving as the Director of Player Personnel for the Sun Devils during the 2012-13 season, which was the most successful season in ASU hockey history. In addition to his enhanced role on the coaching staff, Scott was instrumental in setting up the ASU Hockey Alumni Association where he currently sits on the Board of Directors and serves as the Vice President. Moving on to the bench, Scott will assist with the forwards and hopes to help lead ASU to its first ever National Championship.
Jeff Tecca-Goalie Coach
Coach Tecca is originally from Southern California and spent the later half of his youth hockey career living in Anchorage, Alaska. Jeff was a standout net-minder in Anchorage for 13 years where in 1988, he won a State Championship with Dimond High School and received Rookie of the Year honors. In his senior season, Coach Tecca led West Anchorage High School to State Championship Title. From 1990 to 1993 Jeff played with various Jr. A teams in the NAHL & IJHL, and finished his Jr A career with the Trail Smoke Eaters of the BCHL. Later that year in 1993 Jeff made his professional debut when he was invited to the training camp of the IHL San Diego Gulls. In 1994, Coach Tecca played with the Bakersfield Oilers of the WCHL and later that summer signed with the Sacramento River Rats (RHI).
In 1995, Jeff claimed what would be the pinnacle of his playing career in winning a gold medal at the World Championships with Team USA’s inline National Team. In 1996, Coach Tecca finished his pro career with the Phoenix Desert Rats of the CIHL (inline) and started Tecca Goalie School which he has owned and operated for the last 17 years in the Valley. Jeff works with some of the Valleys top goaltenders including several goalies who have moved on to Jr A and the NCAA D1 Level. In his two season’s with ASU’s DI Hockey Program, Jeff has developed two ACHA All-Americans and had one sign a professional contract with the Allen Americans (CHL).
