Dennis LeClair – Head Coach
Dennis brings over 14 years of coaching experience to the ASU program but has been involved with the game as a player, coach, and on-ice official for the past 40 years. From his playing days as a youth travel and high school hockey player in Maine where he was named to the All State team back in the 80’s to his extensive officiating career with USA Hockey that included a nomination to the IIHF, multiple assignments in the World Jr. Championships, and a successful career at both the collegiate and professional levels including the ECAC, ECHL, and AHL. Due to a business opportunity in 1998, Dennis and his family relocated to Arizona where he traded in his stripes for an opportunity to work on the ice with young kids and immediately became involved with the Coyotes Amateur Hockey Association program. His teams have won multiple state championships, countless tournament championships, and they have been finalist or semi-finalist in several Rocky Mountain District Championship tournaments. Dennis spent the last two seasons coaching the Jr. Coyotes U18 Tier 1 team which participated in the prestigious Tier 1 Elite League and has also been involved with the State of Arizona Player Development Camp. Dennis works in the insurance industry and lives in Scottsdale with his wife Stefani and their three children.
Ed Lisogar – Assistant Coach
ASU is proud to welcome back Ed Lisogar to the Sun Devil program. This is Ed’s second stint with ASU Sun Devil Hockey following three outstanding years as head coach of the ASU’s Div. III team in ‘02, ‘03 and ‘04. Ed was the driving force behind the success of the Div. III program in those early years, winning the Western Conference two out of three years (finishing second only to eventual National Champions Colorado in 04). His aggressive coaching style not only lead ASU to their first EVER Div. III National Tournament, but he did so for three consecutive seasons finishing in the top 10 nationally each year. In the summer of ‘03 Ed represented ASU at the AHCA National Coaches meetings in Naples, Florida securing the 2004 ACHA DIII National Tournament which was held in Scottsdale, AZ. The Sun Devils took home the Bronze solidifying ASU’s hockey reputation in the U.S. and Canada. Unfortunately for ASU the time constraints of his several business ventures forced Ed’s departure from the program in 2005.
Born in Los Angeles, Ed moved to Vancouver, British Columbia with his Father and put on his first pair of skates at age 13. Despite having only one year of skating experience Ed was selected for the prestigious North Shore Winter Club AAA Midget team at age 14. His stellar Junior career began at age 15 in the BCJHL (Merritt). He moved quickly up the ladder with the WHL (Calgary), OHA (Kingston/Guelph) and MWJHL (Minnesota Jr. Stars). Ed accepted a scholarship to The Ohio State University where he was a four year starter for The Buckeyes in both hockey and lacrosse. Despite the time commitment required to excel at two varsity sports (MVP his senior year), Ed graduated 26th out of 400 from the College of Engineering. Ed was named head coach of The Ohio State University ACHA Div. I squad in 1981 and in 1986 Ed served as player coach for the Vancouver Flames B.C. All-Star team on a European exhibition tour of Div. II teams in Italy, Switzerland and Germany where they went undefeated.
Ed has coached successfully at all levels in the U.S. and Canada. In addition to ASU, Ed’s Arizona hockey experience includes The Coyote Amateur Hockey Association U16AAA and U18AA in 2001-02 and again in 2012-13. Ed’s experience, commitment and success as both a player and coach in the U.S., Canada and Europe will only serve to bolster an already stellar coaching staff at Arizona State University.
